Beauty talk with Luis

In this first installment of our new monthly series, our Mary Kay Global Beauty Ambassador Luis Casco goes in-depth on gel lipstick.
Rubs of new Gel Semi-Shine Lipstick Haute Pink and Gel Semi-Matte Lipstick Crushed Berry.

Gel Is In!

Just like with fashion, trends change in beauty, and right now, gel formulas are all the rage. The texture is modern and easy to wear, feeling lighter on the lips than cream lipstick. It has this soft-focus effect that reduces the appearance of wrinkles, meaning your lips won’t need a filter when you post pictures

Two Fabulous Formulas

I reach for semi-shine when I’m working high-intensity events like Fashion Week and the red carpet. With just one tube, I can create totally opposite looks: a pin-up look using a lip brush or an easygoing wash of colour using my finger.

Semi-matte gives you classic texture with a really cool, updated finish. The formula makes a colour statement without leaving lips dry like most mattes. Someone could easily wear more than one of these shades at a time, so you could really own them all and get creative with the entire collection.

Shades for Days

For a cool girl look I like to keep things casual by diffusing colour and applying Apple Berry with my fingers. For sophisticated occasions I reach for Red Smolder and apply it with a lip brush. If I want to try something trendy I’ll play with lip contouring by blending Midnight Red to the outer lip corners and placing Poppy Please in the middle.
