Mary Kay believed that, together, we could make a difference in the lives of others. That’s why she created the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation, providing a vehicle since 2001 for our Canadian Sales Force to raise much-needed funds for women undergoing cancer treatment, and those women and children affected by domestic violence.
Knowing that every donation counts, one Mary Kay Independent Sales Director – Christine Ransom of Barrie, ON – created a unit strategy to reach their $6,000 fundraising goal for the Seminar year. These fearless fundraisers kicked off their 2018/2019 fundraising activities with their very own MK5K on Sunday, September 30.
“Barrie has a beautiful waterfront and it's a great way to shine light on the cause, and have some rubber meet the road!” exclaims Christine, adding: “Our Risers & Adorables family walked Sunday afternoon, right after the 'Walk for the Cure' in the morning, so it was a great day of community support for challenges that affect us, close to home and close to loved ones! It was definitely PINK in the PARK!”
With one event down, and three more to go, their next event – “Celebrity Server” – is already scheduled for November 14. Held at a local pizza restaurant, and with 75+ guests expected, Christine and members of her unit “don aprons, Mary Kay T-shirts, and greet guests, take orders, and juggle trays” in support of a good cause. They also generate donations with a mega raffle table and 50/50 draw.
In addition, the restaurant is kind enough to donate 10% cash back of each guests’ dinner bill to the Foundation, and Christine says their goal is to raise more than $1,500 in one evening.
“We’ve received fabulous community support for charitable causes, and we've been enjoying their hospitality to invite family, friends, neighbours, co-workers, and local small businesses to join us for a night of fabulous food, prizes and fun!”
With plans well underway for their last two events, Christine says it’s important to help spread the word as much as it is to raise funds for the Foundation.
“Get connected to your local community and let them know the precious reasons why the Foundation exists. We can all say we have been associated with a cancer journey story of hope and courage, we even have had Beauty Consultants stay at our local shelter at a time of need in their lives.... Perhaps you have a similar connection?”
As Look Good Feel Better® volunteer herself for the past seven years, Christine has witnessed first-hand the incredible power this program can bring to women undergoing cancer treatment. She also knows the need of her regional women’s and children’s shelters, and how the Foundation’s Shelter Grant Program can make a difference.
“What a privilege and responsibility we have to perpetuate the love and compassion of this worthy charity... It's important work, and a great team spirit building opportunity,” she says.
